The Workforce Investment Act (WIA), a federally funded skills training program is eligible to:

  • Low-income Boston residents
  • Dislocated workers of Boston companies or workers laid off from Boston companies
  • Laid off Boston Residents

FAQs:
I am currently working in Boston, but, I live in Quincy. Am I still eligible for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) skills training program?
No. You must either be a Boston resident or a worker laid off from Boston companies.

How can I access skills training funds if I do not qualify to receive skills training in Boston?
It depends on where you reside, you can access your local career center to inquire about the Workforce Investment Act training funds.

What is Section 30 form I hear so much about from Unemployment offices?
Form 1622 or Section 30 form is an application form for claimants to fill out and State approved vendors to fill out if claimants wish to attend skills training within claimants' first 15 weeks of Unemployment and to waive them from job search while they are in skills training.
